  26. MICROSOFT RENDERS HIGH-END 3-D ANIMATION WITH SOFTIMAGE

  28. Microsoft has begun shipping a new version of its 
  29. award-winning 3-D modeling and animation software, 
  30. Softimage 3D, for the Windows NT operating system. 
  31. Softimage 3D 3.0 for Windows NT offers the same 
  32. production-proven 3-D animation environment as Softimage 3D 
  33. for Silicon Graphics systems, while delivering 
  34. workstation-class performance at approximately 50 percent of 
  35. the overall system cost. With this breakthrough in 
  36. price/performance, more animators now can take advantage of 
  37. high-end 3-D animation software.

  39. Softimage products have helped create many of the world's 
  40. most innovative, visual effects-rich productions, including 
  41. films such as "Jurassic Park," The "Mask," "Jumanji" and  
  42. "Casper"; commercials such as the Shell Dancing Gas Pumps; 
  43. and interactive games such as Virtua Fighter and Daytona.  
  44. Softimage has pioneered many of the advanced animation 
  45. techniques that are used throughout the industry, including 
  46. inverse kinematics, spline-based modeling and animation, and 
  47. motion-capture technology.

  52. graphics card manufacturers to optimize performance of 
  53. Softimage 3D for Windows NT. Internal benchmark testing 
  54. shows that Softimage 3D running on properly equipped Windows 
  55. NT systems produces similar or better performance than 
  56. traditional UNIX-based workstations that cost approximately 
  57. twice as much.
